3 tips to get big airs
Wakesurfing enthusiasts often find doing airs to be one of the most entertaining tricks, impressing everyone on the boat more than even the fancier 360 moves. Make sure that you are using a board that is appropriate for your skill level and riding style. A board that is too small or too big can make it harder to get big air.
To achieve great air while being towed by the boat, follow these three simple steps:
Step 1: Position yourself at the back of the wave to have ample runway for gaining maximum speed. Use one or a couple of good pumps to generate speed. Speed is key: The faster you go, the more lift you generate, which will help you get higher off the wake. However, be careful not to go too fast, as this can make it harder to control your board.
Step 2: Pop at the right time: As you approach the wake, start to stand tall and prepare to pop off the wake. Ensure you are timing your pop correctly, which means waiting until your board has reached the top of the wake before jumping off. When reaching the top of the wave, ollie and throw your arms upwards to lift your chest towards the sky rather than downwards towards the board. After you make the pop, bring your knees to your chest, not your chest to your knees.
Step 3: Control your body: Once you are in the air, make sure that you are controlling your body and keeping your weight balanced over your board. This will help you land smoothly and avoid crashing.
